PIMAS | Portable Instant Mineral Analysis Systems

The NOI PIMAS has the objective to define advanced sensors for mining operation, devoted to provide an instant and precise evaluation of the mineral content and enhance the economic exploitation of mine reserves. The NOI consists of research centers and university with diversified expertise in mining exploration, in mineral multi-analytical evaluation, in devising and developing advanced sensors based on X-ray, Laser and Neutron techniques (with access to large infrastructures as Synchrotron radiation and Neutron diffraction), and in data integration by Internet of Things tools.
The NOI PIMAS aims to overcome former characterization methods based on time-consuming sampling-and-analysis. The aim of partners’ activity is to define a new generation of advanced sensors for mining operation, and promote their usefulness for on-site real-time analysis of minerals, cutting the time-for-analysis and exploration costs. 

Along the 2,5 years of PIMAS, partners will also generate new advanced ideas and techniques in the frame of the KIC RM, indicating viable solutions for their evolution, by technology acceleration projects and by interacting with relevant ongoing projects.
Building on these outcomes, WP6 will conceive and set-up as key deliverable a service catalogue for consulting end-users. The single-stop shop PIMAS will offer a set of consulting services on high-tech sensors technology to mining companies, sensors producers and research centres, based on the original outcomes of networking between technology infrastructures and expertise made available by Partners.
