LEEWAY - LEading coopEration toWArds energy communities policies tackling energy povertY

LEEWAY will act on regional and local policies to promote the adoption of energy policies that facilitate the introduction of REC, through actions of sharing and direct exchange of experiences between the authorities involved to fill gaps in policies, introducing elements and rules that ensure an improvement of the identified policy instruments. Study tours, workshops and conferences at regional and interregional levels are, in addition, planned in the project.

ART-ER is collaborating with the Emilia-Romagna Region on the LEEWAY project, which aims to foster the adoption of energy policies to realize Renewable Energy Communities in Italy, Belgium, Poland, Germany and Croatia.

The project partners are 7:

  • Ferrara Development Agency (SIPRO) (Italy),
  • Emilia-Romagna Region (Italy),
  • City of Roeselare  (Belgium),
  • Marshal's Office of the Silesian Voivodship (Poland),
  • Citizen-energy-cooperatives in the district of Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm (Germany),
  • City of Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm (Germany),
  • Town of Prelog (Croatia).

The project will run for 36 months, from 1.03.2023 to 28.02.2026.

Energy communities based on renewables will reduce dependence on fossil fuels, greenhouse gas emissions and contribute to the fight against energy poverty. Among the expected outcomes of the project, in addition to improving five policy instruments to create a favorable framework for the formation of REC; study tours will be organized where local stakeholders can learn from international examples of best practices.
